With all the advance buzz, it's no wonder American players clamored to play The Art of Fighting. Three

weeks of location testing in arcades convinced SNK the game could command 500 play. That is, a two-token price requirement in test arcades "met with absolutely no resistance from players," execs reported. "In fact, they lined up six deep to play the game and just stacked their tokens on the control panel." SNK: ON A ROLL

Barone said September of 1992 was SNK's "best month ever" for several reasons. Their Neo-Geo kit World Heroes proudly reigned in the number one position on RePlay's software chart. The Art of Fighting began shipping around mid-month, with distributors eager for product and allotments moving smoothly into the pipeline. By mid-month, combined sales of all Neo-Geo titles had already topped SNK's previous onemonth record!

All this has the air of a prediction coming true - or perhaps, a promise made good. Back in May, SNK execs said they would launch a super-hot fighting game by late summer. They said this one game, in concert with aggressive marketing, would help SNK double its market share in a single year. That's saying something, when you recall one fact: at the time SNK announced this goal, they already had over 15,000 hardware units in the field and more than 70,000 pieces of system software sold.

But SNK is sticking to its announced timetable. The Art of Fighting is out on time. Even more important, it's performing as promised. Now watch SNK's dust as they show the trade what Neo-Geo is really capable of!
