SNK TO COMBINE SYSTEM & DEDICATED GAMES

SNK of America says it's

going into dedicated games, but they're not abandoning the system approach which made NeoGeo so successful during the past

decade. At last month's JAMMA Show in Tokyo, SNK debuted its Neo-Geo 64 system and first associated titles including a dedicated sitdown driving simulator called Road's Edge and Samurai Shodown 64, which will be offered in a dedicated system cabinet. (The game's pictured at right on the JAMMA show floor with Atlas Distributing's Jerry Marcus and SNK Executive VP John Barone.) Both cabinets will later be convertible to system use. Neo-Geo 64 is the successor to SNK's original Neo-Geo system. It uses CD-quality audio and cartridge-based graphics. SNK technical services chief Darryl Williams explained that the new platform's 64-bit memory brings four times the data storage capacity and much greater speed than the original Neo-Geo, along with 16 million colors! National sales director

Tim Jackson stated, "We will have three different configurations of system cabinets: one for driving games, a second cabinet for fighting/adventure and later, we'll have a third cabinet for gun games." See our Spotlight Special feature in this issue for more on happenings at SNK - page 153.
