Hitachi Booth. 1.5 is here...was their motto.
1.5 is the thickness of their upcoming television sets. This is in inches (for those non-US readers).
They had some pretty dope television sets.
They didn't lie, 1.5 inches proven. These were fully functional sets, not just mock ups.
Even though these televsions are thin, most likely, they will require an external box to plug in other devices. The end of an HDMI cable has a depth of greater than 1.5 inches, so it would only make sense, furthermore, the power supply, which is still large has to be external for this set to be this thin.
Mark these down as they will be hitting the market in 2008. Even though these sets are not as thin as some of the other manufacturers, Hitachi plans to release these well ahead of the others, which are planned in 2010. Currently, most LCD's, Plasmas range from 4-7 inches in depth. So at 1.5 inches, this will certainly sell well, at least until the thinner sets hit the market.
It's inevitable that this would come out. Not sure how it will do considering everything seems to be headed towards hard drives.
Hitachi's Blu-ray camcorder media set up.
Fully functional Blu-ray camcorder. 1080p resolution like we expect. First models will run at 60Hz, with future models running at 120 to 240 Hz.
Hitachi had a display screen that allowed you to record then play back on the monitor and the playback looked spectacular.
The only drawback of this camera is that it's somewhat bulky. While we sort of spoiled with the smaller camera's these days, carrying one of these is going a bit backwards in convenience. When hard drive capacity increases and the compression is better, maybe we'll have that convenience back.
Some pretty sick specs and rightfully so, the playback image show what it could do.
Hitachi's prototype televsions. These are amazing.
The next generation sets are not only thinner, but more decorative. Today's flat panel TV's are still somewhat dull in appearance and don't really correlate with our decor. The future sets blend design (with the choices in colors), while having a super slim design that can fit anywhere.
Hitachi's 50 in plasma. Super thin, under 1 inch with incredible contrast ratio, deep blacks and jitter free motion. The improvements never seem to cease.
Did we mention the incredible designs? Yeah, the new sets fit well for almost any decor.

Panaonic's gaming projector. Fast action with almost no motion blur. A great alternative for those gamers who want the ultimate 'BIG Screen.'

Is this really necessary? A 150 inch Plasma screen? You might have to build your house around this piece. We don't think this will fit on a table top stand for some reason

Uh, yeah, a super thin, we're talking 12mm thin 50 Plasma TV. This is scheduled to come out in 2010. Will be a good alternative to OLED until that technology is perfected.

For those who've wondered. This is a view of the LCD's guts and components. Since LCD's are backlit, the blacks are difficult to reproduce and if you pay attention to them, the blacks seem...gray.

KOF '98 Ultimate Match.
Metal Slug 7 on Nintendo DS. Fully playable version. MS7 is freaking awesome and it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but there is a 2-player WI-FI mode. 6 Characters to choose from and more action than...ahem, you see in Metal Slug 3 or 6. No joke.
Wow!! 7 Missions of mayhem. Most Slugs only have 5 Missions total. This game is freakin' difficult also, so don't think it's a cake walk. BTW, you will NOT be able to select where to start your mission. This is for demo purposes only.

HD DVD Booth CES 2008

This thing is...uh...huge. Check out the people near it. Yeah, it really it that big. Very cool. This was actually at the Dolby Digital booth.
It's a shame that Transformers was on HD DVD only. Oh well, that means more time for them to develop a Special Edition version for Blu-ray when they are forced to jump over.
It would've been cool if they had a Megatron version. Maybe he would be a bit too big to bring in.

Alpine's in car HD DVD Player. I love their products, but c'mon, make a Blu-ray version, will ya?!
One day, this will be like the cassette deck unfortunately. Outdated. Such a shame.

Uh, did we say this place was quiet? Man, looking at this booth, I felt really bad for them. Seriously. I guess the news of Warner's intentions really spread fast, especially at CES.
One reason why HD DVD didn't take off. Venturer?
One would think a relatively high end company like Onkyo would support both formats. Toshiba must've given them some benefits. On a side note, HD DVD hardware is somewhat limited in terms of manufacturers. Toshiba, Venturer (we've never seen this for sale anywhere), Onkyo and Microsoft (Xbox 360 add on) are the only hardware supporters. With any format, there has to be a good balance between hardware and software. HD DVD has great software, but for hardware choices, it just doesn't have it. Another reason to their impending demise.
