We all spend time on gaming websites for a few reasons: Some are pure gamers, who pretty much play everything from SNK, Capcom to other producers' games that are made. Some are collectors, just here to buy every game in existence, for the joy of owning and looking at it's contents. And some fans here don't even own game systems, but are intrigued with sharing their artwork. This article is just about that, the fan art that we've grown to enjoy and appreciate.

For years, I'd would say that to me, it was all about the games, how the game played, how the game looked, basically, how good a game really was. Years later, I was bitten by the bug and fell into the collector's trap, buying every game in sight, many games left on the shelf without being played, even once. So now, where am I? Well, let's just say I've learned to appreciate the art in gaming much more than I used to.

During the web development of s-c.com, the vision the staff had was quite plain, with little or no artwork to encompass our web pages. After a good number of revisions, to enhance any gaming site, professionally drawn and colored artwork was needed.

Puuurrrfect Team In Full Glory

The credit for the major designs of s-c.com goes to none other than John Devilman. What's more impressive about John is not only can he program a full website, but the whole topic under discussion here is about his talent to draw....and color. John, being a huge Capcom fan himself (SF III: Third Strike Expert, so as we're told), finds drawing characters quite easy and most importantly, enjoyable.

Some unfinished/unpublished work by John Devilman and danimation.

Not good enough, according to John. Such a perfectionist he is.

John Devilman's Bio:

"I remember when I was a kid, my mother bought me a Star Wars coloring book to occupy my time while she watched soaps. I remember I would place a sheet of paper over the lineart in the book and then trace over them, eager to show my mother what I had done.

"that's wrong, John", she would tell me. "You have to draw it for yourself,
don't just trace out of the book."

Some Artwork that was "supposed" to be, but didn't make the cut.

Then, she'd send me back into the room to try again. I guess this is how I began my art hobby. Since then, I've kept with it, drawing whenever I have some spare time and nothing better to do.

K' is just badass, but didn't make the cut either.

This eventually got me into tattooing, which is where I met a 3d animator who hooked me up with an intern job at a web development company. It's here that i began learning how to make webpages, but not until I quit there did I actually learn how to make them well.

Despite everything though, I just want to be an actor. Or a cyborg. A
cyborg actor. Yeah."

Travel

Yes, that's a name. Travel is actually John's roommate, who is also an amazing artist himself. This guy is a cool cat, even though he's a little behind on finishing up my custom avatar I've asked him months ago.

Yeah, we weren't able to get his bio either for this article, but it will come soon enough. Oh well, let's show off some of his work:

danimation2001: Professional Colorist

For every great penciler, is a great colorist helping him/her. From the little that I know about "artists" most pencilers don't like one thing...that's to color their work. The reverse can be said about a colorist, who would prefer coloring, less penciling.

Bring in danimation2001. Most, but not all of the art John Devilman has drawn was colored by no other than danimation2001. Having worked next to the proclaimed "fastest colorist in the world" Mr. Soto, danimation2001 has moved up to the ranks of capturing fans all over the net and the comic industry. To give you and idea of speed, take a piece of art, such as the Birdie and Earthquake pic in our Links Page. The inexperienced or to be more appropriate, uninterested colorist would take up to 6 hours to color, and this wouldn't be reaching the same level as what danimation would accomplish, which he normally finishes a piece of art at that size within 2 hours tops.

danimation is a huge Marvel vs. Capcom 2 fan. Juggie art below, pencil, inked and colored by danimation himself. Quite impressive. Are you kidding me? Just check out the blur effect in the image. Too cool!!

danimation has been a fan of John's art and has worked with him on many projects particularly for many art pieces that you now see on s-c.com. Hey, nothing wrong with us hogging two awesome and totally creative people!!

Did I say he's a big Capcom fan also?

danimation2001's Bio:

"I have to be honest, I never thought anything would come from coloring, I only did it in the past as an excuse to meet people online. I basically went around the net asking people if I could color in there line art. I kept at this for 3 years, in that time I was asked by a small company to do some sequential color work for them. The pay was very low but I wasn't really doing anything else at the time so I gave it a shot.

After that I was asked by another colorist (Soto, the fastest colorist in the world :]) to help him out with a project on a GIjoe toy line box set. I was still very slow at the time and keeping up with a guy like this was just not something that I could handle, so eventually I had to throw in the towel.

Shortly after that I was noticed again on the net by another artist. Mark Brooks, a penciler and a member of the ledheavy crew ( www.ledheavy.com ) gave me a shot on a pinup for Noble Causes. Apparently he was pleased with the work I did on the pinup, and then asked me to do the colors for a Voltron cover. After I was done with the cover he then asked me if I would be able to do the interiors. One thing lead to another thing and now I am currently working on a Marvel comic. I'm working on a new project to which I can not tell you anything about except that it deals with a spider... and man... :] That's all that you're getting from me.

I still want to be a penciler, I still have the desire to create art in me. After I'm done with college I hope to practice more with my pencil skills."

And oh, if anyone is wondering who drew and colored the awesome Hanzo art we kept as our splash page, it's danimation himself. Here's another look:

Not bad for someone who doesn't consider himself so great with his line art skills. Geez, if I could only draw half as good, the world wouldn't be the same, but at least God gave me skills to be good at some games. =) I don't know, I think all these artists are nutty to be able to pop out work this great. Best thing is, all three of them have contributed to our site. Gotta love 'em.

And finally, a preview of what Neo Geo fans have been waiting for, the sequel:

Thanks guys, as you deserve all the credit for giving us fans at s-c.com some nice eye candy. Keep it coming. Oh yeah, wait until all of you see the NEW artwork that is coming down the pipe for the site.
