The Oni-Con Group, which is driven by a staff of about 17 die-hard fans (most of them are quite young and are students, nonetheless) has run this event for the past 2 years, the show in October being their 3rd. Oni-Con is a convention that houses anime, comics, cosplay, artists, software developers, gamers and fans alike have shown a tremendous growth year after year.
Big Bruno has been heading the gaming portion of Oni-Con from the beginning and has done a superb job of gathering gaming fans from SNK, Capcom and other video game manufacturers. For years, he has donated his own time and more importantly, hauled heavy arcade cabinets and games from his personal collection to hold tournaments and for everyone who attends to just have a plain good time.
This year's Oni-Con is going to be quite special, as it will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center for the first time and has more than enough space to host whatever is thrown at it.
We've been proud to sponsor the gaming section of Oni-Con for the third straight year and it'll be the first time that many of our staff members will be attending this show.
What's really neat about some of Oni-Con's offerings is that the gaming and anime areas are held 24 hours a day. Yes, you heard it right. Non-stop gaming to blister your fingers and anime to make your eyes...dry up like a prune.
So why are we here and what's in it for you?
Like year's past, we've given out prizes for some of the mini-tournaments that has been held. Yes, we did listen to the feedback and yes, some of our prizes were lame, but we wouldn't have known that unless we heard from you, and we did.
From what we've heard thus far, the gaming portion of Oni-Con will consist of three sections:
1) Casual Mini-Tournaments (Games will be decided on at the show. Tentative titles are listed below).
2) Casual Gaming (Equipment Supplied by Big Bruno/www.snk-capcom.com). There will be a mixture of arcade cabinet set ups as well as home consoles.
3) BYOC (Bring your own console(s)/TV's)
Mini Tournaments
Currently, Big Bruno expects to hold tournaments in these games: King of Fighters XI (PS2), Super Smash Brothers (Gamecube), Naruto (PS2) and Tekken 5 (PS2). These titles are still tentative and may change.

One Free Entry Per Person (for duration of the whole tournament)
Staff Members of Oni-Con and SNK-CAPCOM.com do not qualify (sorry). They couldn't win it
anyway. =P
Sounds easy, right? First person to accomplish this wins the system. Hey, best thing, there's no entry fee for a chance to win a classic home system. If you've played Fatal Fury Special, in our opinion, it was there first break through fighter in terms of their game engine. Not only does this game play well, but the animation and theme of the whole game is hilarious from Jubei's cookie and Chengs ass-slap taunts. Don't let the humor fool you, these guys are some of the meanest fighters in the game and any seasoned FF Special gamer will tell you that. We will have videos of some of these casual game play and contests.
This contest will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Gaming Hall of the Convention. We'll post up the exact time once the gaming schedule is finalized.
Best Cosplay
Dress up as your favorite character and win a Collector's Edition Boxed set of Patlabor 2 - The Movie (Limited/1995). Just drop by our booth, have your picture taken and fill out your contact information to be notified if you win. The winner will be announced on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at noon. Can't get any easier than this.
Nappy Contest:
Because the gaming is non-stop from start to finish we thought of a easy (well, if you don't mind not showering for a few days) and possibly smelly way of winning a prize. Our judges will pick the nappiest looking (not smelliest, thank goodness!!) gamer at noon, Sunday, October 22, 2006. If you looked like you haven't showered, combed your hair, changed your clothes and smell like butt, your chances of capturing the prize will be pretty high.
Expect your picture to be taken as many will be curious to see who the 'lucky' winner is.
One Winner: $75.00 Best Buy Gift Card
Exclusions: Oni-Con and SNK-CAPCOM.com Staff Members (We need these people clean and presentable).
Rage Radio (formerly S-C Radio) will debut it's LIVE Show at Oni-Con. We will post up a schedule of guests on the show. Phil Kinney (Big Bruno), Chris (Chris on S-C.com), Danimation will be hosting the LIVE Show. Other guests will follow.
So if you're headed to Oni-Con for the other stuff, make sure to stop by the gaming area for some casual and competitive play. Most entrants are going to be noobs, so if you're any good, chances are, you'll win something. See ya there!!
