Rockets, pistols,moltov coktails,swords, are just some of the weapons you will use to beat the living crap out of your opponents. Powerstone is a different take on the fighting genre, it is the first go-anywhere-grab-anything fighter. the game is simply breathtaking, this is the most fun I have had in a fighter in a long time!
Overview
In the 19th century, and adventurers set out to find the legendary Power Stones, magical stones that promise to grant any wish. You must guide one of 8 characters on a quest to find these stones and fulfill your dream of a large fortune.
Graphics 9/10
This game really does show off the Dreamcast's graphics. The characters, from the martial arts master to the master samurai, look great with excellent facial. the back grounds look OK, but could have been better. The levels include a London type level look good but do not have much detail. The levels are alike to one another except for cosmetic changes. Overall the graphics in this game looks great, clearly showing the Dreamcast's strength.
Gameplay/Controls 10/10
This game has some of the most innovative gameplay I have ever seen in a fighting game. Basically the game throws 2 characters into an arena and lets them pound each other with weapons and each characters different fighting style. The characters are very generic fighting game characters. You have the kung foo master, the hot chick with very reviling clothing, and of course the huge slow powerhouse guy. In the game you have the ability to collect power stones. Each character starts of with one stone each and another one randomly apperars during the match. Each stone has a unique color to it and if you are able to collect all 3 power stones your Character will become a super souped up guy or gal and can do some serious damage. You will be able to do a Power drive or a Power Fusion attacks which not only look cool but also are very deadly to your opponents.
The controls are fairly manageable. One button punches, one button kicks, one button allows your character to jump, and one button allows your character to pick up stuff. The L and R are used to do Power Fusion attacks. The game also has arcade stick support which is very good. it really adds to the game, and overall makes the experience more fun. The gameplay and controls are top notch, very well done and just show how creative Capcom really is.
Sound/Music 7/10
This game has very good sound effects but mediocre music. The guns sound like guns and the bombs exploding sound like they should. But the music on the other hand is awful. It fits the level, you don't have heavy metal in an Arabian building, but the songs become more of an annoyance instead of making the game better. If you hit a character and their Power stone goes away an annoying voice yells out "Oh NO!" which is very annoying. They sound and music aren't the worse ever, but could have been much better.
Replay Value 5/10
Beating the game with all 8 characters will take some time and there is always a 2 player mode which is a blast. There is also a collection mode in which you get prizes for beating the game. The game does not have that much replay value unless you have many friends.
Overall 8/10
Power Stone is defiantly not the best Dreamcast fighting game. But it is very good and if you want an innovative take on the genre which has excellent gameplay and very fun multiplayer then get this game
